At the heart of the Day of Atonement is the word ONE (At-one-ment). On this last day, the high priest enters the most holy place in the hope that God will accept the sacrifice and for one year be ONE with them. Thus, the work of the high priest can be described in one word: reconciliation. God has done away with the rituals, ceremonies and sacrifices because they were all fulfilled in Jesus Christ being the eternal high priest and the final sacrifice. But what remains for us in this church age is the ministry of reconciliation. We as a church has a burden to reconcile the people to God by pointing to the finished work of Christ. And this ministry of reconciliation is a high and holy calling that's worth giving thanks about.
